FOXBOROUGH -- If one thing with Mac Jones has stood out more than anything else this spring and summer, it's his work ethic and being a perfectionist.
Speaking following the second joint practice with the Giants Thursday, linebacker Dont'a Hightower revealed a behind-the-scenes measure Jones has taken to improve himself as a NFL quarterback.
"He's a terrific kid. He works hard. Real smart dude who is going to go over the edge. I've been impressed with him [since] OTAs with how hard he works," he said. "I actually found out yesterday he's been looking at some of the defensive plays, so he can kind of conceptually see how we work and stuff. I give him credit for that. Not a lot of young guys would see that as an opportunity to get that on his own. You can take that for what it’s worth. The kid works hard. I’ll leave it at that.”
The No. 15 overall pick had his best practice of the entire summer Wednesday against the Giants with Cam Newton out due to COVID protocols. Newton returned Thursday and Jones wasn't as good in limited action.
The Patriots will close out the preseason Sunday night in New Jersey against the Giants.
