Drake Maye is under a mega lens due to his success in his second season, but the Patriots quarterback is staying focused on voices inside Gillette Stadium.
Former Patriots quarterback and league MVP Cam Newton recently accused the Patriots of having "fool's gold written all over them" on ESPN's 'First Take,' but that message missed Maye, who has oft-cited Newton as his childhood hero.
"Oh no, I don’t even know what show he’s on," Maye said, when asked about the comments during his weekly appearance on 'WEEI Afternoons.' "I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments. So, I just worry about what people in our organization think, and worry about we think and what my teammates think. People are going to have different opinions. I’m just going out there on Sunday and worrying about ourselves."
Newton elaborated that the Patriots "keep playing sorry scrubs" during his segment, but New England has the No. 2 seed in the AFC and has beaten both the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road this year. The Patriots are 2-1 against teams with a winning record, having lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3.
