On Wednesday, the NFL announced Patriots (11-2) second-year quarterback Drake Maye has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13, marking the first time in his young career the North Carolina-product has won this weekly honor.
Maye completed 24 of 31 passes for 282 yards and 2 touchdowns with a 126.0 passer rating in his team’s 33-15 win over the Giants (2-11) on Monday Night Football. He was the only quarterback to complete more than 75% of his passes and throw for at least 260 yards in Week 13.
Would this game qualify as his best in a Patriots uniform? No. But by virtue of a down week by the rest of the AFC’s quarterbacks, Maye walks away with what will surely be the first of many Player of the Week honors he will receive over the course of his career.
This was the first time a Patriots quarterback has won this award since Week 11 in 2017, as Tom Brady was 30 of 37 for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns with a passer rating of 132.0 in his team’s 33-8 blowout win over the Raiders (2-10) in Mexico City.
Maye’s honor is also the first Offensive Player of the Week win for a Patriot since Week 16 of that same 2017 season, when running back Deion Lewis was honored for his effort in his team’s 37-16 victory at Buffalo. Lewis punched one in with both his legs and hands, accounting for 153 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns.
This honor is the second straight week a POTW nod has been sent to New England, and is the sixth in-season award won by a Patriot in 2025:
- Week 2: Antonio Gibson wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Week
- Week 4: Marcus Jones wins Special Teams Player of the Week
- Week 7: K'Lavon Chaisson wins AFC Defensive Player of the Week
- October: Jones wins AFC Defensive Player of the Month
- Week 12: Andy Borregales wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Week
- Week 13: Drake Maye wins AFC Offensive Player of the Week
As of publishing, Maye remains the odds-on favorite to win the 2025 NFL MVP Award, with BetMGM listing him at -120.
He’ll be off in Week 14 with a much needed bye before getting back on the field for Week 15 against the Bills (8-4).
If Maye and the Patriots beat the five-time defending AFC East champions for the second time this season, they will clinch the franchise’s first division title win since 2019.
That 2019 division title was their 17th AFC East crown in a 19-year span.
Player of the Week wins.
Potential division titles.
It’s starting to feel like football again in New England.
