Ernie Adams explains role with Patriots in behind the scenes feature

Ernie Adams, the Patriots' director of football research, is a man of mystery.

After going to school together at Phillips Andover Academy, he's worked for Bill Belichick since he became coach of the team, and even before that with the Browns.

Adams is at every practice and every game, but no one really knows exactly what he does. He was featured in a behind the scenes feature put out by the team Sunday and Adams kind of explained what he does.

"My job since I have been here is to encompass the full range -- coaching, working on the draft, how we're going to handle the salary cap since the cap came in," he said. "I've had my chance to put my fingers in a lot of pies, hopefully I haven't messed them up."

As for what "pink stripes" means?

“That’s proprietary football information," Adams said. "… Sometimes I think it is best to leave things to people’s imaginations, so I will let it go at that.”
