Emotions, tensions and excitement will all be riding high when the New England Patriots travel to north New Jersey to take on the New York Jets this Sunday at 1 p.m. The environment is always spirited, though the rivalry has been a bit one-sided of late, the Patriots having won the last 14 games between the two AFC East competitors. Count one young Jet among the many that thinks things have to change and change quickly for New York.
Appearing on the ESPN New York radio show “Bart and Hahn” (yes, that would be Mr. Can’t Wait himself, Bart Scott) on Tuesday, talented Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson called the Jets’ losing streak to the Pats “unacceptable”, adding that, “It’s time that things change around here.”
What's wrong with the Patriots' offense?
His tone might reflect the feelings of many in the locker room and throughout Gang Green Nation, but the factor the Jets thought would help tilt the tables in their favor, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, is out for the season. That leaves third-year QB Zach Wilson, who’s been forced back into action since Rodgers tore his Achilles four snaps into the 2023 season, to change the Jets’ fortunes. Wilson is 0-4 with a passer rating of 50.6 vs. the Patriots since he was drafted second overall in 2021, amassing 693 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions. Talk about unacceptable.
Wilson, however, thinks guys like himself, the Offensive Rookie of the Year last year, and teammate Sauce Gardner at cornerback, last year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, are the ones meant to turn the tides in favor of the Jets.
“It’s time we do what we get paid for,” Wilson said.
It’s no secret New England's offense has struggled so far this season as the 0-2 Patriots under Mac Jones are averaging 18.5 points per game, both home losses to kick off 2023. Jones has never lost to the Jets, and Wilson and Wilson and Gardner and co. have never beaten him. Is this the Sunday something finally gives? Tune in at 1 p.m. to find out whose effort is most acceptable, and whose results are not!
