Five weeks of 2023 NFL action are in the books and clear statistical trends have taken hold across the league. As such, WEEI.com will check in each week through the remainder of the season to see how the Patriots (1-4) are doing statistically in a variety of areas, both on a team level and as individuals.

Pats’ stats analysis: After being shut out by the Saints and scoring a mere three points over the last two losses, New England now ranks dead last in the NFL in points per game at 11.0. … The Patriots rank 26th in total offense based on yards, including 26th on the ground. … Third down has been an obvious issue for the team after going just 1-for-14 against New Orleans, now ranking 28th in the league in that area thanks in large part to Mac Jones’ third down passer rating of just 50.6 which ranks 32nd. … Defensively the Patriots still rank in the top 10 in total yards (8th), passing yards (6th) and third down (6th). … Turnovers are the ugliest of all areas for Bill Belichick’s team that ranks 31st in turnover differential, thanks to the fewest takeaways in the league (2) compared to 10 giveaways (tied for 28th).
