The Patriots certainly have an issue at tight end.
They weren't getting much production from the spot at all this year and then rookie Devin Asiasi was placed on injured reserve this week, leaving Ryan Izzo and Dalton Keene as the only tight ends on the active roster.
There is Rashod Berry on the practice squad who is currently a defensive end, but played tight end at Ohio State.
Speaking Friday on a video conference, Bill Belichick acknowledged Berry could get a look at tight end.
"Yeah, definitely," he said. "He played that position for two years at Ohio State. Rashod’s a very willing player, willing to do whatever he’s asked to do. So, yeah, I mean, at this point, when you have to try to create depth on your roster, those are the kind of options that you’d want to look at."
In addition, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss, the team is bringing in a tight end for COVID testing and a potential workout in Dylan Cantrell.
Cantrell was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 draft by the Chargers. He was was a wide receiver in college, but made the switch to tight end this year, which signals he'd be a receiving tight end type. He hasn't appeared in a NFL game.
The Patriots, who currently sit at 2-5, will take on the Jets Monday night.
