How will the Patriots stack up in the AFC East this season?
Nick “Fitzy” Stevens and Jon Lyons discussed that on Sunday. Both are buying the Jets being a playoff team and the Bills winning the division. The additions the Patriots have made, especially Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator, have the guys believing that New England can make it three AFC East teams in the playoffs.
“As bad as their offense was last year and as bad as their special teams was, they were one win away from making the playoffs,” Lyons said.
In a tough AFC, Lyons feels the Patriots can finish third in the division and still make the playoffs. The guys weren’t dismissing the Dolphins either, but do think they’re the team the Patriots have the best chance of picking off, with the Jets the most likely to challenge Buffalo for the division crown.
“Nobody wants to hear that the Jets were just a quarterback away last year,” Fitzy added. “Nobody wants to hear that the Jets have a terrific roster on both sides of the ball and they added to it this year.”
