FOXBOROUGH -- Hunter Henry will return to California this week to face his former team in the Chargers.
Henry played five seasons with the Chargers before signing with the Patriots as a free agent this offseason.
Speaking Wednesday, Henry was asked about leaving the organization and what the hardest part was.
“It was bitter-sweet because of my wife and family and the community out there," he said. "I think that was the biggest thing, that was the hardest part — the relationships we built there and separating from those off the field. On the field and organization-wise, I was very excited to come here and pumped to be part of this organization. There were definitely some hard times, but the excitement overshadowed that.”
Henry finished his Chargers career with 31 touchdowns.
“They gave me an opportunity in this league, took a chance on me and drafted me. I will always have a lot of appreciation for them," he said. "Who knows where I would be. But, I am very thankful for the memories and the people I ran into there.”
Last season Henry was with a rookie quarterback in Justin Herbert, who showed tremendous promise, and now he's with another talented rookie in Mac Jones.
“We built a good relationship and that was on the field, but also off the field, too," Henry said. "I enjoyed my time with Justin and I am excited to see his success last year continue this year. There were parts of it that were hard, but I am excited for the new journey and the new opportunity here. Once Mac came in, I [was] excited to work with him and continue that growth.”
Henry has touchdowns in four straight games.
