FOXBOROUGH -- Despite 34 career games and 116 receptions, Jakobi Meyers still does not have a receiving touchdown.
That could have come to an end Sunday in Houston as he was wide open for a huge gain up the left sideline with only one defender in his way of the end zone, but the receiver dropped the ball before he could run with it.
It came during a brutal first half for the Patriots where nothing was going their way.
Speaking Wednesday back at Gillette Stadium, Meyers explained what happened.
“I lost it in the lights,” he said. “I mean, I’ve still got to catch it. But the ball can go through the lights, come back down through the lights. You’ve just got to focus a little bit harder. … (It was) the lights along the side of the stadium. I mean, it’s a catchable ball. I still should have caught it. I’ve just got to focus a little bit more.”
The Patriots ended up winning the game, 25-22, but it was a play that stood out days later.
Meyers is the leading Patriots receiver this year with 31 receptions for 302 yards.
