They say the third time’s the charm. Any idea what the fourth is?

After joining the team for the fourth time in his 10-year career, linebacker Jamie Collins will be active and could see his first playing time in the 2022 season. Collins, selected 52nd overall in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, rejoined the Patriots on Oct. 3, signing on to the practice squad to help bolster an underperforming and injured linebacker unit on the Patriots defense.

Boomer Esiason says this is still Mac Jones' team

Collins was not re-signed after the 2021 season, where he played 10 games with the Pats following a release from the Detroit Lions. The team looked to get younger and quicker at linebacker for 2022, moving on from veterans like himself, Dont’a Hightower and Kyle Van Noy (now with the Chargers). Yet the team must feel Collins has enough gas left in his highly athletic tank to contribute.

Collins, who can play all over the defensive formation, could see time thanks to Josh Uche still suffering from a hamstring injury and being listed as questionable for the game against the Chicago Bears Monday night. To find Collins. just look for the No. 99 on the field, his third different number (91, 58) in New England.

Kickoff of Bears at Patriots is set for 8:15 p.m. on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
