JC Jackson believes he can be a No. 1 NFL cornerback

With Stephon Gilmore sidelined with an ankle injury, Patriots cornerback JC Jackson assumed the No. 1 role and drew Bills top wide out Stefon Diggs.

In coverage Sunday, Jackson allowed five catches on eight targets for 84 yards with an interception, which was a solid job against a receiver as skilled as Diggs.

“I felt pretty good coming in and preparing all week,” he said to reporters after the game. “Just going against a good receiver. I’m a playmaker just like he’s a playmaker.”

So, does he feel like he has the potential to be a future No. 1 corner?

“I mean, of course,” Jackson said. “Why not?”

Jackson's interception was his fourth of the season.

With Gilmore potentially being dealt not only at the trade deadline, but also this offseason if it doesn't happen this week, the Patriots could potentially look to then sign Jackson to a long-term deal and make him the team's No. 1 cornerback.

Jackson is a restricted free agent this offseason, so the team could allow him to play out that contract, or sign him to an extension.
