When it comes to the Patriots and potentially selecting a quarterback in the NFL Draft, Justin Fields has generated a lot of buzz this week with the team potentially trading up for him.

But, appearing on Mut at Night with Mike Mutnansky and Andy Hart Wednesday, Senior Bowl executive director and former Patriots scout Jim Nagy doesn't see the fit.

“I don’t see Justin Fields as a great fit in the Patriots system — at least the Patriots system I know and being around Josh [McDaniels] and what he’s like to do in the past," he said. "I think they would have to tailor what they do to Justin’s skillset, so no, I actually don’t think that would be a great fit.”

As for who would be a good fit, Nagy is all-in on Mac Jones.

"You’re not going to be the same every week. Every week is treated differently," he said when discussing the Patriots' offense led by Josh McDaniels. "That is something Mac can handle. That is why I think Mac is a great fit because we were really particular in scouting with how we talk about players and you really have to be specific with your descriptors — it’s good, it’s very good, it’s average, it’s above average. You rarely get into the excellent and rare category. Like Mac Jones, he’s not just smart, he’s pretty special smart. He’s close to being in that rare category in the sense that he is a total gym rat and there ain’t many of those any more. This guy is going to exhaust himself in the preparation. He loves it. Then he takes it out on the field. You see how quickly he makes decisions and processes. He doesn’t get confused and the game happens so slow for him. That’s the upside in Mac Jones.

"The guy has a small sample size in starts, what it is it? 17 games. What happens when the game really starts slowing down for him? To me that is where you get really excited about Mac. For him to come in and be under Josh, I know they like to switch things up every week, that is why I think Mac would be a great fit.”

The Patriots would likely need to trade up to get Jones as well, as most mock drafts now have him being selected in the top 10.
