gresh and fauria: senior bowl director jim nagy talks patriots quarterback mac jones
Before Mac Jones' was a Pro Bowl alternate as a rookie and before his dramatic fall off as starting quarterback of the New England Patriots, he was an NFL Draft prospect trying to work his way into becoming a first-round pick.
On said journey, the former Alabama signal caller partook in the Reese's Senior Bowl, a yearly event in Mobile, Alabama meant to showcase college football's top prospects in a given year.
Jones impressed in Mobile. He was widely considered to be a first-round pick throughout the rest of the draft process and was ultimately selected at No. 15 overall by the Patriots.
So what happened? The Senior Bowl's executive director joined WEEI's Gresh and Fauria on Wednesday and gave his take on what went down with the quarterback over the last two seasons:
"From the outside looking in, I see a guy that played at a really high level as a rookie and a guy that's like, wired the right way, total gym rat, like football junkie, and there's not many of those anymore," Nagy explained. "Ultra competitive."
He continued: "How does that guy fall off? You know what I'm saying? Like to the point where now he probably has to go somewhere else and reset his career? You tell me what happened over the last two years. Like not many rookies come into the league and play the way Mac played, so.
"To me, what happened up there is not on Mac Jones."
Nagy also spoke about the quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft class, the wide receivers, and more on Wednesday's edition of Gresh and Fauria. You can listen to the full interview here.
