jones and mego: mac jones joins the show following sunday's loss to eagles

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones took Sunday’s loss against the Eagles hard. The third-year signal caller wore the defeat on his sleeve following the game, telling the media that "in the most critical times I played my worst".

On Monday’s Jones and a Mego on WEEI, while still taking the blame, No. 10 sounded much more even-keeled after taking ~20 hours to cool off:

“I learned a lot from watching [the film],” Jones explained to the show. “As they always say: never as bad, never as good as you think, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is winning.”

Despite some mistakes from just about every position group on his side of the football, Jones continues to express confidence in coordinator Bill O’Brien’s approach:

“Really just stay with the course and kind of run the system that we have," he said of how they were able to stay positive after falling into a 16-0 hole. "I think there’s answers in the system... you just kind of follow your rules, you know, and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't but when you have a system in place that you know ‘alright this where I’m supposed to look, here’s is where I start’, eventually you’re going to get rolling.”

After a slow first quarter, Jones completed 10 straight passes at one point on Sunday and finished the contest with 300+ yards and three passing touchdowns:

“I felt confident,” he said of shaking himself out of his cold start. “We had practices where maybe it wast a slow start or something and you kind of just lean back on your training. I felt like we got going a little bit but it was just too inconsistent. All those things that were inconsistent I feel like we saw on the film, starting with me, things I can work on.”

Jones continued: “It’s not like it’s unfixable things. I know we’ll get better at it and nothing to hang your head – we’re already kind of working on Miami here. It’s going to be a great week here coming up.”

“It’s going to go our way eventually.”

Jones also spoke about the young offensive line in front of him, his rapport with Hunter Henry and Kendrick Bourne, and more on Monday’s edition of Jones and Mego on WEEI. You can listen to the full interview here.
