The Patriots are waiting it out with one of their defensive playmakers.
According to FOX Sports' Henry McKenna, New England and linebacker Josh Uche "have had no contract negotiations". He is set to become a free agent after the 2023 season.
This summer, MassLive's Mark Daniels reported that the two sides had had talks, but they have now seemingly halted.
6 rings: who should the patriots make available at trade deadline?
With the Patriots sitting at 1-5 and Uche in the midst of a contract year, could New England potentially be looking to move on from their 2020 third round pick? The former Michigan Wolverine is coming off of a career campaign in 2022 where he tallied career highs in sacks (11.5), tackles for loss(27), and forced fumbles (2), and has the opportunity to cash in this offseason.
If the Patriots don't see themselves signing Uche long-term, then it might be worth dangling him on the trade market. The NFL's trade deadline in October 31 at 4 p.m.
Uche suffered a foot injury in the team's loss to the Raiders on Sunday, but ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that it is not considered a long-term issue.
