6 rings: Devin McCourty says it'd be stupid for Pats to move on from Bill's coaching tree

With the Patriots sitting at 1-5 through six week of the NFL season, the question now naturally becomes whether or not they’ll be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who is in the final season of the three-year, $15 million contract he signed at the beginning of the 2021 season, sounds like he wants to remain with New England:

"Definitely will be in my mind,” the pass catcher said on Wednesday when asked about the upcoming deadline. “[I’ll] just be ready for whatever. I want to be here. I love to be here but if there are other plans, then it is what it is."

As an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington in 2017, Bourne has always been ready for anything, and embraces his underdog mentality.

“I like being an underdog,” he said when asked about that mindset. “When you really think about the underdog, a lot of us, I feel like, in the Patriots organiation is built off underdog in a sense. I feel like Bill likes underdogs in a sense. If our team can play like that and know we’re betting than what we’re showing and showcasing I think we can shock a lot of people.”

Bourne was also asked about past Patriots who may have started the underdog mentality in the team’s wide receiver room.

I think about like [Julian] Edelman, I think about Wes Welker, I think about guys in the past that I’ve seen,” he explained. “I think about a guy like [Chris] Hogan. And just people that have built their name and proven to Bill that they can be reliable, that they can do more that what the naked eye can see from other people. That’s why I love this organization, that’s why I love being here. Because Bill plays who’s playing the best, who’s practicing the best, who’s putting their best foot forward. I think that’s important for our whole team because you never know what practice squad guy is going to be the next guy. Tom Brady. Mr. Irrelevant. You kever know. So, I think it's just a great place and I think he’s built something great. We’ve just have to get it back to that place.”

With the NFL’s trade deadline coming up at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31st, we’ll have to wait and see if Bourne is still playing football in Foxborough, the place he says he loves.
