Kordell not blaming 'Spygate' for AFC Championship loss, but…

"They knew exactly where to go, that was unbelievable."

With the Patriots going to Pittsburgh on Sunday, it’s hard not to think about some of the alleged cheating the Pats did, especially in 2002 during the AFC Championship game that caused the Steelers from going to the Super Bowl.

Former Head Coach Bill Cowher has said that “Spygate” wasn’t the reason the Steelers lost the game and while then-quarterback Kordell Stewart isn’t blaming the loss on it, he has a feeling the Patriots knew what to expect.

Asked by The PM Team on KDKA in Pittsburgh if he took a lie detector test what would it say, Stewart said, “The lie detector test would say something remotely close to they knew what the heck was going on,” said Stewart.

Adding that he turned the ball over too many times and special teams put them behind are to blame, “I made checks . . . we changed so much stuff up to where we made some checks or whatever it was we did, they knew exactly where to go, that was unbelievable,” said Stewart.

While Stewart is suspicious of the Patriots being on the up and up, he admits the better team in New England won.

No matter what you think of what the Patriots did or did not do, Stewart says it’s so impactful, it comes up every time the Steelers and Patriots meet.

Talking about the current Patriots team and their struggles offensively, Stewart hopes there “big problems” continue so the Steelers can win on Sunday.

The Patriots were only able to score seven points losing to the Dolphins 20-7.

It’s the first time the Steelers and Patriots are playing a 1 p.m. game since 1998.
