Tom Brady may be the most decorated quarterback in NFL history, but to Larry David he is just another guy.
On an episode of the “Calm Down Podcast” with Fox Sports broadcasters Erin Andrew and Charissa Thompson, the latter told a story from earlier this month when she and David bumped into the seven-time Super Bowl champion in the elevator at the Kentucky Derby.
Thompson explained that they had filed into the elevator up against the doors when she heard someone behind them say, “Hello, Larry,” only to turn around and see Brady standing behind them.
She said the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star turned around and simply said, “Oh, Tom, hey.”
David then turned back toward the elevator doors, according to Thompson, and said nothing else. As they exited the elevator Brady came up and continued talking to him.
Of course, David is quite the celebrity himself, so he would not necessarily be starstruck in the presence of Brady, but it was a very on-brand exchange for the comedian — a Jets fan, mind you — to seemingly be so casual and indifferent to the most famous football player in the world trying to talk to him.
“I think the reason everyone loves Larry is that Larry can’t be bothered,” Thompson said. “Whether it is Tom Brady, Jeff Bezos or anyone in between he’s just like, ‘meh.’”
