Looking further into N'Keal Harry's summer with Patriots

There's no question N'Keal Harry is having a solid start to training camp, especially considering what his two years in the league have been and his trade request last month.

Speaking Sunday, the third-year receiver said these training camp practices have been the best he's had with the team.

"I feel good, I feel more agile, I feel faster, so it’s all coming together at this point," he said.

Harry has made a number of highlight-reel catches on a few days in 1-on-1 drills. But, when it comes to team periods, it's been a different story.

The Arizona State product has been close to invisible in these 11-on-11 periods, including having some days where he hasn't made any catches at all. It's clear Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers are ahead of him on the depth chart, but with all that being said, there's still a spot on the roster for him.

Harry obviously is physically gifted -- showcased with his play in 1-on-1 reps -- and can have a role in the offense, just not on a regular basis as of now. It's also worth noting the Patriots seem to be trying to add special teams to his plate. If Harry is going to be the No. 4 or 5 receiver on the roster, playing on special teams may be necessary.

This is something receiver Kristian Wilkerson has done, as like Harry he's competing for one of the final wide receiver spots on the roster.

So, while Harry has certainly been impressive, he's far from being considered a top receiver as he hasn't been able to show it in team work, which is the closest thing to game action during training camp.

Obviously, things can change with joint practices and preseason games, but for right now Harry is moving closer to earning a spot on the roster, although we shouldn't go crazy and expect six catches for 100 yards and a touchdown Week 1 against Miami.
