When Mac Jones appeared on the field Monday in Philly for a joint session with the Eagles, there was a bit of concern as the rookie was sporting a knee brace/sleeve on his left knee.
Some noted Jones walked to the sideline gingerly after one series in the preseason opener, but speaking to reporters after the practice, he calmed any fears that may have been had.
“I just wanted to try it out for protective reasonings and I think it is a good idea as a quarterback just to have that on your left, front knee," he said. "So, I am going to give it a go and see how it feels.”
Jones added: “It feels pretty good. I am getting a different one tomorrow — just trying some different things.”
But did it have anything to do with a hit taken in Thursday's game?
“No. No. No. I feel good," Jones said. "Practice is practice and they stay off the quarterback, so everything is good. I just want to make sure I keep it safe. That’s your lead leg when you plant, so you just want to keep it safe.”
Jones and Cam Newton are continuing to compete for the Patriots' starting quarterback job.
