Even though Mac Jones has only been in the NFL for five games, he's made a good impression on Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy.
“Mac Jones, I think he looks very, very comfortable," he said on a conference call with the New England media Thursday. "Confident command of the offense, so it doesn’t look like they are holding anything back. He can make all the throws. I think he’s off to an excellent start.”
McCarthy added: “I would say a lot of my opinion has been consistent watching him at Alabama, watching him in the Rose Bowl. He’s definitely a young quarterback that is high on instinct and awareness. I think that definitely has transferred to the NFL. I like the way he anticipates and like I said earlier, for as young as he is in the process he has excellent command of the offense.”
McCarthy has faced the Patriots a few times in the past when they had Tom Brady, so does he see some similarities?
“Definitely," he said. "You can see the coordination of how they game plan each week. If you take their offense over a five week period you see a tremendous amount of volume schematically, but as you watch week-to-week conceptually they do a very good job of targeting the matchups and definitely challenge — it will be a challenge to our defensive scheme.”
Dallas comes into Sunday's game at 4-1.
