It's becoming clear Mac Jones is learning Patriots offense quickly

FOXBOROUGH -- Mac Jones has only been a member of the Patriots organization a few months, but it's becoming clear how much better he knows the offense.

The rookie had a tough first day in full pads on Tuesday, but followed it up with two impressive showings the last two days, including in the rain on Thursday. Jones was very accurate with his throws, but beyond that was in control of the offense and seemed to know where to go with the ball on a number of plays.

Following the session, Jones was asked if he feels he's picking up the offense quickly.

“I mean, I think so,” he said via video conference. “I try to put time into it. Whatever I can do to try and make it easier, I think that’s what everyone does. You’ve got to study it, to learn it. It’s just like school. You gotta study hard for the test, so as long as you’re putting in the work, usually it’s fine. But, like I said, it’s more just a mentality and just trying to be the best you can be on each play.”

How exactly is he doing that?

“I’d just say first of all, being attentive in meetings,” Jones said. “Because a lot of good information comes from there. And when we have our free time, you’ve got to get better at something, so always try to just do something in my free time: watch film, draw, get treatment, whatever it is."

Draw? What exactly does that mean?

“It’s not like painting pictures or anything, it’s just drawing the plays,” he said. “That sometimes helps when you’re a visual learner. A lot of guys on the team do that, so I just learned it from some of the older guys.”

Jones has certainly been impressive the last few days and seems to be pushing Cam Newton when it comes to the quarterback competition.
