Jones and Mego: Mac jones on the eagles dominant defense

There’s no question that the Patriots offense, specifically their offensive line, will be challenged this weekend when they go up against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nick Sirianni’s defensive front led the entire led the entire NFL with 70 sacks last season, something quarterback Mac Jones is well aware of:

“As you guys saw all last year, in training camp and all that, they’ve done a great job,” New England’s signal caller told WEEI’s Jones and Mego on Tuesday during his weekly hit on the program. They’ve got great players up there. Obviously have drafted really well at that position, they take a lot of pride into that.”

He continued:

“They have the best defensive line in the NFL. At the end of the day we just have to go out there and compete, try and control what we can control, and understand that we’re going against a bunch of beasts.”

Outside of just the defensive front, Philly has a quality secondary as well with guys like Darius Slay and James Bradberry - players that now-Patriots wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster went up against in Super Bowl LVII:

“Anytime he’s on film, just asking him what he saw, what was the play, what were they telling you to do here,” Jones said what he’s done to prepare for the Eagles this weekend with the help of his new pass catcher. “All that stuff helps. It doesn’t have to be him necessarily, it can be another veteran, but JuJu has a great wealth of knowledge, obviously like you said played against and stuff, but it’s a new year and just tying to take in what he says as a veteran plasyer. I always appreciate that as a quarterback.”

Jones also spoke about Tom Brady’s return this weekend, if he has a say in the Patriots’ personnel decisions, and more on Tuesday’s edition of Jones and Mego. You can listen to the full interview here.
