The Patriots will still have their quarterback on the field this weekend against the Steelers -- hopefully.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, Mac Jones, who left Sunday’s loss against the Miami Dolphins with a balky back, is trending toward getting back on the field for Week 2.
“Per source, Mac Jones continues to improve from the back spasms that plagued him late and in the aftermath of the #Dolphins loss,” Giardi tweeted Tuesday afternoon. “‘He is doing everything he needs to’ in order to be ready for Sunday at Pittsburgh (says same source).”
Jones said his back started giving him trouble after a punishing hit that was flagged for roughing the passer but stayed in the game. Brian Hoyer was then spotted warming up and might have gone into the game for the garbage time snaps if the Patriots had gotten the ball back to finish things out.
On Monday, the young quarterback said he was feeling “lot better” after not walking well after Sunday’s game and hoped to give things a shot in Pittsburgh.
Wednesday’s practice and injury report should reveal a bit about whether he’ll be able to.
