Jones and Mego: Mac jones joins the show following loss to Dolphins
As media entered the Patriots locker room following Sunday night’s loss to the Dolphins, quarterback Mac Jones sat at his stall with a towel draped over his head, and thoughts flowing through his brain:
“Mostly just reflection,” he told WEEI’s Jones and Mego about what goes through his head during a time like that. “Just trying to be where your feet are, realize it’s a great game we get to play but at the same time you want to win. It’s not as fun when you don’t win. Just trying to gather my thoughts before I go on the podium.”
When he made it to said podium following the 24-17 defeat, Jones mentioned that the Patriots, “gotta play better and learn from it… Gotta be here early and leave late and do it together. If a couple guys are doing it, it's not good enough, clearly.”
Some took this quote out of context on Monday morning, insinuating that the signal caller was in fact signaling calls - potentially towards select teammates about a lack of effort and preparation. Jones told WEEI that this wasn’t the case:
“No. I mean it’s not… I’m talking about being close so, whatever you’re doing, just do more. It’s not like it’s rocket science. If you watch 30 minutes of film, watch an hour. If you lift for 45 minutes, lift for an hour and a half. Just whatever you can do so what when we’re in this situation – you know for me, that’s how I feel better about everything. You can only put in so much work. There’s 24 hours in a day, you have to sleep for 8-10 of them. All of the other hours have to be about work.”
And work is what they’ll do. The Patriots will practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week hitting the road to New York for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Jets.
In his weekly hit with Jones and Mego, (Mac) Jones also spoke about why the offense wasn’t consistent, learning from Matthew Slater and David Andrews about a slow start, and more. You can listen to the full interview here.
