Mac Jones was not happy when he stepped to the podium Sunday night in Miami.

The Patriots rookie quarterback was not thrilled with the way he played in the Patriots' 33-24 loss to the Dolphins in the regular-season finale.

New England allowed Miami to score on its opening possession and then Jones threw a pick-6 on the Patriots' third play of the game. Jones rallied in the second half, but it was simply too big of a hill to climb.

“We just need to execute better and that starts with me," Jones said to reporters. "Just in practice, in the game, like you’ve got to go out there and do much better than we did today. It’s super embarrassing, honestly, just from my point, just how I played. It wasn’t good enough. I can be better. It starts with me. I’m the quarterback. My job is to make people around me have success. It starts with me. We’ll get it fixed. You have to watch the film and learn from it and realize how embarrassing it is to play that way. At the same time, we have an opportunity next week and that’s all you can ask for.”

Jones, who finished with 261 yards passing to go along with a touchdown and the interception, didn't seem to care about rallying back. At the end of the day it was about the final result.

“We lost, and that’s all that matters," he said. "We put the other units in a bad position with the way we played. You can’t blame or point fingers at anybody besides me and the offense. We know we can play better and we have great players on our offense and we know that wasn’t our best product in terms of execution. We definitely fought hard, but we’re coming up short. If we can combine the execution part and the effort we’ll be a lot better.”

The Patriots are still in the playoffs and will travel to either Buffalo or Cincinnati on Wild Card Weekend.
