Jones and Mego: What is your dream Super Bowl match-up this year?

Jerod Mayo and the Patriots reportedly tried to expand their coaching staff this week to no avail.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, New England offered Marquice Williams their special teams coordinator position, but he declined.

Williams has been the Falcons special teams coordinator since 2021, but was given permission to seek lateral employment when Atlanta fired head coach Arthur Smith at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old coach has worked in the NFL since 2013, making stops with the Bears, Lions (2x), and the Chargers. He was hired as Detroit's assistant special teams coach under former Patriots coach Matt Patricia.

With the Falcons hiring Raheem Morris as their new head coach on Thursday, it’s fair to assume that Williams may have been offered his position on the staff back and in turn, declined the lateral move to Foxborough.

The Patriots have also interviewed Rams’ assistant Jeremy Springer and former Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughney for the position.
