6 rings: Pats Falling Behind in Free Agency & The Dynasty Finale

The Patriots signed veteran running back Antonio Gibson to a three-year, $11.25 million last week on the first day of free agency last week. The first impression he's giving off? He's ready to compete.

"I want to compete and I believe that will make the running back room better," Gibson told reporters on Monday afternoon when asked about his decision to sign with New England. "... I'm not here to take the back seat."

Gibson will add a much-needed element in the passing game, as the 6-foot-2 back has caught 172 passes for 1,282 yards and seven touchdowns over the last four seasons. He actually played wide receiver in college.

"Just a guy who's able to make plays," he said of the skillset he brings to the table. "I can run the ball, catch the ball, I can line up outside, I can block too... whatever you need from me I can get it done."

Gibson, 25, will join a room alongside (among others) Rhamondre Stevenson, who has been the Patriots' bell-cow running back the last several seasons. He told reporters that he's already spoken with his new teammate.

"I definitely hit [him] up," Gibson said. "I love his game... great running back and I can't wait to go to work with him for sure."

Said work will begin on Tuesday, April 9th with the beginning of New England's offseason program.
