There were a number of reports Monday that the Patriots will be looking to trade up in the NFL Draft, but it is the season for smokescreens and a prominent draft reporter believes the opposite may be true.

Based on two different sources (not inside the Patriots organization) of ESPN's Todd McShay, the team is more likely to trade back than up based on pre-draft conversations.

The Patriots currently have the No. 15 overall pick, but could potentially feel they could get the same player they want in the mid-20s and then it would make sense to trade back to pick up an additional draft pick or two.

If this were to be the case, it would seem like a quarterback will not be selected in the first round.

ESPN's Mel Kiper said Monday he would be surprised if the Patriots do not trade up for a quarterback.
