Cam Newton may not miss Patriots minicamp after all

Just over a week ago when Cam Newton suffered a reported bone bruise on his throwing hand at a Patriots OTA session, the expectation was although the injury wasn't serious, he would not return to action until training camp in July.

Now, that may not be the case.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Newton was at last Friday's OTA and threw the ball a little bit. He adds it wouldn't be a surprise to see the quarterback back under center Monday when the Patriots begin mandatory minicamp.

Speaking late last week Bill Belichick acknowledged the injury wasn't anything serious, so it wouldn't be a total surprise.

Newton's return would take away some reps from Mac Jones, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

The Patriots' minicamp is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
