Jarrett Stidham is going to miss a good chunk of time.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the third-year quarterback had successful back surgery on Wednesday that will keep him out at least for 12 weeks.
Although it isn't season-ending, he will return following the Patriots making their moves at quarterback. He was competing for perhaps a backup job at best.
It was reported earlier this week he was having pain in his throwing shoulder and back when throwing.
This means he will not be traded like some said he might be this summer and will likely stick with the Patriots through the season and compete for a job again next summer.
The 2019 fourth-round pick hasn't started a game yet.
