While a lot of NFL Draft media pundits believe the Patriots will be trading up for Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, former Patriots executive Mike Lombardi isn't one of them.

Speaking on VSiN Wednesday with draft analyst Lance Zierlein, Lombardi doesn't believe the Patriots will do it.

“I don’t think New England’s trading up to get Justin Fields,” he said. “I don’t see that. If you watch his throwing motion and you watch Tom Brady throw, they’re two different throwing motions. I don’t think they’re ever merging together.”

The reasoning doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense, but Lombardi is very close to the Patriots and Bill Belichick.

The pair also said Fields may be more popular with the media than with NFL teams. In order to land Fields, the Patriots may need to trade up to the No. 7-10 range.

The Patriots will select No. 15 in the NFL Draft that begins Thursday night.
