Even after the re-signing of Cam Newton, it still feels like the Patriots will be looking to add at the quarterback position.
It could be a veteran or the more likely scenario is it will come via the draft.
But if it were to be a veteran, Marcus Mariota was at the top of some wish lists and it doesn't seem like that will be an option.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Mariota is expected to rework his deal and remain with the Raiders. He adds the QB will get a one-year deal worth $3.5 million with a chance to make up to $8 million, including incentives.
Mariota will continue to backup Derek Carr.
As for the Patriots, this is another potential veteran to come off the board, which makes it even more likely the team will select a quarterback in the draft.
Free agent quarterbacks still available include Joe Flacco, Alex Smith, A.J. McCarron, Chase Daniel and Blake Gabbert.
