It's clear Matt Patricia has been heavily involved with the Patriots since his return this offseason, but it's still unclear what his exact role will be.
Patricia was in the war room on draft weekend and reportedly has been signing some contracts for the team.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Patricia will have a role similar to Mike Lombardi when he was with the organization in 2014, 2015 and some of 2016.
"And that’s meant having a foot in the team’s reworked scouting process this year, where, as I see it, Patricia’s institutional knowledge of the place (which goes back to 2004) would be valuable as the coach set out to try and get everyone on the same page as the team reworked some of its practices," Breer wrote.
Like Patricia, Lombardi was in the Patriots' draft room during his time with the team.
"I've asked Mike to do some things on an individual [basis] -- projects or things that I've asked him to do -- and he's done a great job of that for me," Bill Belichick said in 2015. "Mike has been a big help to me personally."
We'd expect to see Patricia on the field with the team once OTAs get underway.
