Bill Belichick and the Patriots have been the talk of the NFL through the first two days of the free agency “legal tampering” period.
New England has added high-end talent across its roster while doling out more than $130 million in contract guarantees to the likes of tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry and Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon.
But on the one-year anniversary of the day that Tom Brady announced that he was leaving the Patriots, his former team still has plenty of questions at the all-important quarterback position. Cam Newton is currently the place-holder starter after re-signing with the team on a low-money deal.
Jarrett Stidham is seemingly still in the competitive mix.
After all the activity at other spots on the roster, though, some are getting the feeling that New England could be poised to cap its already incredible offseason with a monster move to add a quarterback.
Former NFL quarterback and current rising-star ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky took to Twitter to express an opinion that would answer the dreams of Patriots fans everywhere.
“It just feels like all the @Patriots moves are in place for a HUGE QB move...up in draft to take a young kid early/use Hou connections to get Watson?!?” Orlovsky tweeted.
The former UConn star and mostly NFL backup isn’t the only one tying New England free agent fury to the idea that the team could be ready for a quarterback trade, either for a veteran or up to get one of the top four prospects in the draft.
But a trade with the Texans to get Deshaun Watson? Former New England personnel man-turned-Houston GM Nick Caserio shipping his disgruntled superstar QB to the Patriots?
That would certainly be something.
New England fans can continue dream about it and at least one respected analyst thinks it’s a possibility worth considering. So stay tuned!
