Could the Patriots really land wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.?

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots have been in touch with Beckham Jr.'s camp.

The 29-year-old cleared waivers Tuesday and is now a free agent. This means he's free to sign with any team in the league and his $7.25 million contract is no more. He will be signing a new deal.

It's unclear how serious the Patriots' interest is. Typically, they always like to do their due diligence on players who become available. It is worth pointing out they do not have much cap space to work with -- roughly $3 million -- so if they were to offer him a deal, it wouldn't be worth much money.

Other teams will obviously show interest, as well.

Beckham Jr. was released by the Browns officially on Monday. In six games this year, he's recorded 17 receptions for 232 yards.
