Patriots reportedly sign veteran linebacker to 1-year extension

The Patriots have given out an in-season contract extension.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, they have signed linebacker Raekwon McMillan to a one-year extension. He's out for the year with a torn ACL suffered during training camp, but this means he'll be around next year.

The Patriots are his third NFL team after being a second-round pick by Miami in 2017. He missed that year with a torn ACL, but had a monster second season in the league as he was Miami's starting middle linebacker. He finished the year with 105 tackles.

McMillan was Miami's starting middle linebacker again in 2019, but missed the final few games with a hamstring injury. He started just four games last year in Las Vegas, so it wasn't a huge surprise that he wasn't brought back for 2021.

The 25-year-old was off to a good start with the Patriots this summer and seemed to be a good locker room guy.
