If the Patriots are indeed in the market for a wide receiver, one may be available ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
According to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo, Bengals wide out John Ross has approached the team about a trade. He's in the last year of his rookie deal and is looking for a fresh start.
Ross, who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is known for his speed, but hasn't performed to what is expected from a top-10 pick. His best season came in 2019 when he had 28 catches for 506 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games.
This year he has just two catches for 17 yards.
Ross certainly isn't a No. 1 receiver by any means, but Bill Belichick has liked to add former first-rounders in the last few years and Josh McDaniels likely could find ways to utilize his strengths, mostly his speed.
The trade deadline is Nov. 3.
