The Patriots are using some of their cap space on one of their own players.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, cornerback Stephon Gilmore is getting $5 million added to his deal this season. His salary goes from $10.5 million to $15.5 million and he has a chance to earn up to $17.5 million in incentives.
The defending NFL Defensive Player of the Year has two years remaining on his contract.
Prior to the bump in pay, Gilmore was 12th in AAV among NFL cornerbacks.
Gilmore and the Patriots will host Miami Sunday.
