The Patriots won't have Stephon Gilmore on the field at least for the first six games of the season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots will be keeping Gilmore on PUP (physically unable to perform) to start the season. He is not eligible to come off it until after the sixth game.

Tuesday was the deadline for Gilmore to be moved to the active roster so he could return sooner.

Gilmore is still recovering from quad surgery at the end of last season, although his contract is still an issue, too.

The cornerback is only scheduled to make $7 million in the final year of his contract and he has said he would like more money.

Without Gilmore, the cornerback position becomes an issue with not much depth behind JC Jackson.
