Mac Jones. Cam Newton. Phil Jurkovec.
There will be no shortage of quarterback conversation when this football season rolls around, with Boston College somewhat unexpectedly adding a little spice to the QB chatter.
While most New England football fans are very familiar with the two primary candidates for the Patriots' starting job, Jurkovec is a relative newbie to local football fans' focus.
The Boston College quarterback held his own while helping put the Eagles back on the map last season, throwing for more yards - 2,558 in 10 games - than any signal-caller in school history.
Now, thanks to some 2022 NFL Draft projection, the excitement around the 6-foot-5 Jurkovec is growing exponentially.
“Jurkovec is like your favorite indie band’s favorite indie band,” a veteran NFL scout told Yahoo Sports. “Every scout right now is buzzing about him.”
The Yahoo Sports piece recently penned by Pete Thamel highlights how the former Notre Dame QB has put himself back into the conversation among college football's elite. The Pittsburgh native had come out of high school being compared to the likes of Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, but after falling down in the Irish's depth chart, he attempted to change the narrative by heading to BC.
Now, with the help of second-year BC coach Jeff Hafley and a supporting cast that includes future NFL wideout Zay Flowers, Jurkovec is becoming one of the most interesting topics heading into the 2021 college football season.
“I think it's the best decision I've made,” Jurkovec told Yahoo Sports. “It was a tough decision leaving Notre Dame, but looking back, the position that I'm in now — being the starter, having all the weapons around me, having all these great people around me — I couldn't ask for anything more.”
