The Patriots closed out their 2022 NFL Draft class by taking Michigan tackle/guard Andrew Stueber in the seventh round with the 245th overall selection.
Stueber was the second straight offensive lineman taken by New England, following sixth-round pick Chasen Hines, and the third of draft weekend after the Patriots took Cole Strange at No. 29 overall of the first round.
The 6-7, 325-pound Stueber (pronounced STOO-bur) is a New England native, having played at Darien (Conn.) High School.
--Stueber started 22 of the 34 career games he played at Michigan, 20 of those starts coming at right tackle. He did start two games at right guard in 2020 and took snaps at center during the practice week at the Senior Bowl.
--Missed the entire 2019 season to a torn ACL.
--Though he started all 14 games he played last season at right tackle and earned All-American honors, Stueber is expected to bump inside to guard in the NFL due to a lack of athleticism for the end of the line at the next level.
--The Athletic quotes Michigan coaches calling Stueber “one of the smartest football guys” in the Wolverine program.
--Stueber did not run a 40 at either the Combine or his pro day. He did 18 reps of 225 at his pro day.
--NFL.com projected Stueber as a fifth-round prospect thanks in part to his size, toughness and strength.
