Jonnu Smith. Hunter Henry. Devin Asiasi. Dalton Keene. And, now, Matt Sokol.
According to the NFL transaction wire, the Patriots have plucked the 26-year-old Sokol off the waiver wire after he was cut loose by the Lions. This will be the tight end's seventh team, joining an already crowded tight end room.
The former Michigan State product has appeared in two NFL games, both coming in 2020 with the Chargers. He was on the field for 15 offensive snaps and 20 special teams snaps.
Sokol originally came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019 with the Chargers, who let him go on the final round of preseason cuts. He would play out the rest of that season on San Diego's practice squad.
