Bill Belichick loves versatility in his players. Players who will do anything to get on the field and contribute to the football team. So when that coveted versatility meets a sudden need on the squad we might be looking at a match made in pre-draft heaven.
According to reports the Patriots are one of eight teams scheduled to meet with Texas A&M’s Kenyon Green. He is one of the top offensive lineman scheduled to come out in the 2022 NFL Draft, considered the top guard overall. Guard suddenly became a position of need for New England following the free agency departure of Ted Karras and the trade of Shaq Mason to Tampa Bay. That he slots in at guard, but has experience at every O-Line position should make him desirable to any team, let alone the Patriots.
Green’s NFL.com draft breakdown says he has “an NFL ready frame who plays with an impressive level of consistency as a run blocker”. Other reports say he has “an All-Pro ceiling." Sounds ideal for what the Patriots need and for what they do, a powerful run-first team. Looks as if he’s believed to be a second round talent who needs some work in pass blocking but will be pro ready within a year or two. The Patriots currently have one pick in the second round, pick 54. Though the idea of trading back for more picks is not foreign to the Pats and could potentially be in the plans with a multitude of needs on both sides of the ball.
Every NFL team is allowed to meet with 30 players before the draft, with Green representing one of the 30 for the Patriots, among several teams. The Patriots are also scheduled to meet with one of the draft’s top cornerbacks, Clemson’s Andrew Both Friday as well.
