The Patriots are about to do two things on Monday Night Football they haven’t done since Tom Brady was still in town. Playing the 2-4 Chicago Bears is arguably the less interesting of the two.

The team announced via its Twitter account that it will dust off its alternate silver pants for the first time in three years.

The silver pants had fallen by the wayside since the Patriots reimagined their uniforms starting in 2020, opting to wear their navy pants with both their home and away uniforms.

Their reappearance for the primetime matchup with the Bears also comes two weeks after New England donned the fan-favorite “Pat the Patriot” red uniforms during a home win against the Detroit Lions.

Of course, the navy jersey-silver pant combination will hope to shake off some bad omens against the bad-news Bears. The last time this uniform made an appearance was in Tom Brady’s final game as a Patriot: the ill-fated wildcard loss to the Tennessee Titans to end the 2019-2020 season. Weirdly enough, that game also took place on a cool, rainy night at Gillette Stadium, which Monday's contest figures to be as well (though hopefully without the fog).

Maybe if tonight goes well, the Patriots will think about going back to the silver pants more often and breaking up the monotony a little.
