6 rings: crucial clashes ahead of patriots vs. cowboys:
The Patriots' 2023 first-round pick Christian Gonzalez has been sensational through his first month in the NFL, and he's already being recognized for his play.
On Thursday, the league announced that Gonzalez has been named the NFL's Rookie of the Month for September. He was honored alongside fellow first-round pick C.J. Stroud, Houston's starting quarterback, who was named Offensive Rookie of the Month.
Through his first three game, Gonzalez has tallied 16 total tackles, one sack, one interception, and three passes defensed - and he's done so against the likes of star wide receivers A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Garrett Wilson.
The former Oregon Duck is the fifth Patriot ever to earn the award, following QB Mac Jones (November 2021), DE Chandler Jones (September 2012), LB Jerod Mayo (October 2008) and WR Deion Branch (September 2002).
A well-deserved honor for Gonzalez, who now has another tall task ahead of him this weekend. He'll likely line up against Cowboys' WR CeeDee Lamb in Dallas on Sunday, and will look to continue his upward trajectory.
