Patriots cut first-round pick from Belichick era

The New England Patriots have released Cole Strange, the interior lineman they drafted 29th overall in 2022, according to the 53-man roster released by the team.

Strange, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga grad, started and played at left guard in 17 games in his rookie season. A knee injury cut his following season short after 10 games, landing him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for the start of the 2024 season. He played just three games last year.

The Patriots also tried him at the center position during different points of training camp this summer, but he was unable to find a steady spot with the starters on the offensive line.

Strange's 2022 draft class was the second-to-last group selected with Bill Belichick at the helm of the Patriots operation. The only player drafted that spring on the current 53-man roster is cornerback Marcus Jones.
