Just hours after departing the practice field on Monday, the Patriots made roster moves to seal the fate of two players in New England - for now.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, New England waived running back James Robinson Monday. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, cornerback Tae Hayes was also released.
Gresh and Fauria: How realistic are the Patriots' chances to land DeAndre Hopkins?
Robinson signed a two-year, $8 million contract this offseason, but the deal included no guaranteed money due to injury concerns. The 24-year-old tore his achilles with the Jaguars in 2021.
Hayes has been a boomerang on New England’s roster, and appeared in two games for the Patriots in 2022. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Hayes back at some point.
Notably, New England has a visit with free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins coming up this week. They also reportedly worked out free agent tackle DJ Fluker on Monday.
Could they be clearing space for one of them? Both of them? The Patriots currently sit at 88/90 players on their roster.
