Patriots fans were ranked as the 4th-most likely to start a fight, according to a recent survey of NFL fans. They were also ranked as the 6th-most likely to win a tussle.


It’s been a disturbingly wild season for fights between NFL fans: a Rams fan tossed a Titans fan down some stairs; a brawl broke out between Chargers and Raiders fans; Chargers and Cowboys fans got into an altercation in the parking lot.

Unofficially, it seems as if SoFi Stadium has been a hotbed for violence, yet Rams and Chargers fans aren’t considered top provokers.

Unsurprisingly, Eagles fans are holding the top spot both in terms of teams most likely to start a fight and most likely to win a fight. They’re followed by the Raiders and Steelers.

In all seriousness, rowdy fan behavior has been a problem in sports venues since COVID-19 restrictions lifted — dating back to last spring’s NBA playoffs. There are probably a litany of reasons for the outbursts, including general angst about the current state of the nation. We are entering our third year of the pandemic, and political polarization remains high.

Add football and liquor, and boom, you have a powder keg.
